that side of the open window
where the noise
of a thousand lonely crickets
blends into the humidity
the snakes in the yard
silently hunting in the black
for mice
and i
don’t love
anyone at all
little cuts
on my fingers
starting to scab over
and to me,
morning always
comes too soon

"If there's one thing that I learned when I was still a child, it's to take up hiding."
I like the description of smoking. And oddly enough I'd like to say that I like the layout of the post.
It's nice to have you post something again.
a modern clock to chime,
Belle & Sebastian. Yes!
TRJ,
Yes, I was having a bit of writers' block for awhile there. I've been working on this other piece, and I've gotten stuck -- so much so that I couldn't write anything else either. At least I finally got some words out with this one. It's just a little something, but I feel good that some words finally came out. Now if only I could finish that other piece.
First of all, let me say that it's really strange for me to log in and read this after having written a short piece in a very similar style during my lunch break a couple of weeks ago. I'd just been thinking of typing it up, and you'd done this. Small world, or at least a small pool of writing styles.
And secondly, this is beautiful.

I definitely feel the night images. Mississippi has its own ecosystem, made entirely of too much water in the air and too many bugs in the plants. Good call.
I like it.
anachronisma,
I'd really like to read the piece you were talking about.
I've posted it. Its formatting is greatly the same, as I felt like capitalizing and punctuating would kill the thoughtfulness of it. I thought about just scanning the tablet I wrote it on, actually. My handwriting is..."eclectic." I love handwritten pieces, though.
My, how I ramble.
i haven't been online reading much lately and i've got a lot to catch up on; i'm excited. this is good and sounds very much like a song.
